Product Description

Quick Release: Pre-Seed boosts soil for fast establishment of new lawns and seeded areas, accelerating growth over the course of 6 weeks. Quick Release: Pre-Seed is a phosphate-rich fertiliser that provides your seedbed with the best foundation for establishing new seedlings. Apply this fertiliser before seeding. Once this fertiliser is watered in it will quickly disperse nutrients throughout the soil. This fertiliser also contains potassium which helps new seedlings fight foliar disease such as pythium diseases.

Please note this fertiliser can scorch your grass blades, so remember to water it off or apply just before the rain is due. Avoid application during very hot periods. We recommend applying on cooler evenings or overcast days. For more information on all things fertiliser, read our Fertiliser FAQs.

Usage Guide

Apply our fertiliser at the recommended rate by hand when wearing a glove or by using a spreader
Water the fertiliser in until it dissolves
Keep kids and pets away from the lawn during application and until the granules dissolve
Remove / water off any footwear you were wearing during the application of the fertiliser to avoid any risk of damage to newly laid patios / stone flag flooring

Not watering your fertiliser in can potentially scorch existing grass or delay the benefits of the fertiliser. If after watering the fertiliser does not disappear and dissolve off the surface, water until you cannot see the granules.

You can apply this fertiliser any time you plan to overseed or sow a new lawn, recommended sowing times are March - September. For a general lawn feed that promotes greeness, you may wish to consider our Slow Release: Spring / Summer or Quick Release: Spring / Summer fertiliser.

Use March to September
Spreading Rate 70g per m2
Watering This fertiliser MUST be watered in - granules should not be visible after application if watered sufficiently.

Aftercare

If you are planning to overseed or sow a new lawn from scratch, you can do so once the fertiliser granules have dissolved

For more information on all things fertiliser, read our Fertiliser FAQs.

Product Questions

Product Questions

Can i apply this now and then in a couple of weeks scarify and overseed? or would you recommend to scarify first before using this and overseeding?
Question by: simon on 9 Mar 2021, 15:31
Hi Simon

I would suggest you scarify before applying the fertiliser.
When you apply the fertiliser make sure that it is well watered and fully dissolved before sowing seeds.

How long should o wait between applying the pre-seed fertiliser and sowing new seeds? Thanks
Question by: Dan on 23 Apr 2021, 23:29
Hi Dan

Once the fertiliser has been fully dissolved then it is safe to seed.
Answer by: Roisin McCann on 27 Apr 2021, 08:30
Hi,

I used the quick release: pre seed fertiliser on 24th September, a week before sowing new seed (Impress: clay master) on 1st October and watered the fertiliser in as advised.

Two weeks since sowing and the grass is growing well.

Since the bag of fertiliser is 20kg and my lawn is only 8m x 8m, I have a good deal of fertiliser left over from the initial application. Can I use this fertiliser once the lawn is established? If so, how soon after seeding should I use it?

If not, which fertiliser would you recommend and when would be the best time to apply it?

Thank you!

Question by: Tom on 14 Oct 2021, 17:24
Hi Tom, whilst the fertiliser can be reused, ideally in the colder months we would recommend our SLOW RELEASE: Autumn/Winter Fertiliser. It will harden the lawn and provide the ultimate protection during the colder months. It gives four months of continuous feed, and although it is less intensive than a quick release it is a more balanced feed. This will take you through to the Spring when you would then consider our Spring/Summer range or you could apply The Re Seed for a quick boost.

All our fertilisers will keep for up to four years if stored in a cool dry place

Hello, I’m about to kill the weeds and moss in my lawn and overseed and topdress, is this the correct fertiliser to use during? Thank you
Question by: Daniel on 28 Feb 2021, 02:54
Hi Daniel. No we would not recommend using this product to treat your weeds.

However we do have Feed, Weed and Moss Killer product. It works over the course of two weeks to eradicate weeds and moss - where it is particularly prevalent patches will appear and these will need seeded. It will also feed your lawn and make any existing grass very green and lush. It is a granular fertiliser and needs to be watered in after application.

Hi, can I use this straight after overseeding? Thank you
Question by: Daniel Cameron on 9 Mar 2021, 01:26
Hi Daniel

We recommend that this product is applied prior to sowing. If applied after I would leave it a few days and make sure that the granules are well watered and fully dissolved.
Answer by: Roisin McCann on 9 Mar 2021, 08:15
It's September and I'm about to renovate my lawn, scarifying and overseeding. Is this OK to use prior to overseeding at this time of year, or would I be better with the Autumn/Winter quick release? I also have fruit trees in my lawn, is it OK to use?
Question by: Greg on 8 Sept 2022, 10:23
Hi Greg, thank you for your question.

You can apply all of our fertilisers before or after seeding, except for our QUICK RELEASE: Pre-Seed fertiliser, along with our Feed, Weed and Moss Killer. Both of these products should both be used before seeding.

If applying fertiliser before seeding, you can sow the grass seed once the fertiliser granules have fully dissolved, unlike our Weed killer, where you should wait two weeks for the treatment to take effect.

If applying fertiliser after seeding, it would be fine to use it 6 weeks after seeding when your new grass is hitting blade heights of 5-7cm and has had its first mow. Our Feed, Weed and Moss killer should not be applied to lawns under six months old.

Our fertilisers, if used around trees, should not cause any adverse effects to the trees and the fruit in the trees.

Thank you
Question by: James on 29 Sept 2022, 12:25
Hi James, what model is the spreader?
Answer by: Roisin McCann on 29 Sept 2022, 13:33
Can I dissolve this in water and apply with a knapsack sprayer?
Question by: Alan on 29 Oct 2020, 14:58
Hi Alan

This product must be applied directly to the area and then watered until fully dissolved.
Answer by: Roisin McCann on 29 Oct 2020, 15:02
Hello - I've completely re-seeded a large part of my lawn with your superstar back-lawn seed and your pre-seed fertiliser (fully dissolved before seeding). How soon after can I add your slow release fertiliser to this area, to further strengthen the grass? While most is long and lush, there are patches where it is thin and has started yellowing at the ends, and would like to give it the best chance to withstand the winter. Thanks!
Question by: Alex C on 5 Dec 2022, 15:36
Hi, we would recommend waiting until the garden is fully established and at least six weeks after applying the Pre Seed before applying another fertiliser. We would also suggest holding off on applying anything to the garden during December and January as the ground is usually frozen.
Answer by: Roisin McCann (Admin) on 9 Dec 2022, 15:43
Hi what number should I put my evergreen drop spreader at when putting your preseed fertiliser down thanks Chris
Question by: Chris Connell on 15 Mar 2023, 12:48
Thank you for your question

We would recommend setting Setting 12.5 x 3 passes for the QUICK RELEASE: Pre - Seed Fertiliser. Please note that the recommended setting is for guidance only and we can not be 100% accurate as we did not manufacture the spreader. Always be cautious not to apply too much product and if you are unsure it is best to work with a lower setting to avoid the risk of damage.
