Hi I have a patch of lawn that gets the full sun all day I’m not 100% sure what the spoil type is but it’s heavy. Would this seed provide me with a nice green look all year round? Currently it dries out and looks horrible during the summer months.
Question by: Richard on 21 Mar 2022, 11:18
Hi there, it sounds like you have clay soils. I would recommend our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed for this area. It is a specially blended grass seed mixture designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions.

The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system which not only allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively but ensures a drought tolerant lawn, especially in soils that are prone to dryness. The perennial ryegrass in this mix makes way for a fast-growing and hard-wearing lawn to thrive.

It does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix, but if your lawn really suffers from shade you may wish to blend it with one of our specialised shade mixtures.

I have a shady corner in my garden which is extremely boggy. We had new turf put down which died in a couple of years. Could you please advise me on the best lawn seed.

Many thanks
Marie

Hi Marie,

Thank you for your question. Whilst it sounds like shade may be causing an issue, it seems the main problem here is the soils that sound like clay soils. Clay soils are typically boggy in the winter then dry and cracked in summer. I would suggest sowing our IMPRESS: Clay Master. It contains species that tolerate clay soil conditions, and it also has smooth stalked meadow grass that offers some shade tolerance. You may also find our blog on this helpful;

what is the best setting for a EverGreen Easy Spreader Plus ???
Question by: nicholas brown on 28 Mar 2022, 20:09
Hi, thank you for your question! We would recommend setting 4x4 passes for the Scotts Evergreen Easy Spreader+.

Please note that the recommended setting is for guidance only and we can not be 100% accurate as we did not manufacture the spreader. Always be cautious not to apply too much product and if you are unsure it is best to work with a lower setting to avoid the risk of damage.

Hi... once the seed has grown into a lawn what height should this grass mix be cut ?
Question by: Kevin McCormack on 1 Apr 2022, 11:43
Hi, thank you for your question. Once the lawn has been established, and there is even coverage throughout the lawn with the grass blades hitting heights of 5-7cm, the lawn will be ready for its first mow on the highest setting!

I’ve built my lawn using Superstar Back Lawn over the last few years. I’ve reseeded a few times over the last 3 years to usually quite good results but come spring the lawn starts to look quite clumpy with bald patches and I have to reseed again. I think the lawn is quite compacted and possibly even quite clay based. If I put this seed down, will it blend well with Superstar Back Lawn?
Question by: Daniel Hughes on 15 Apr 2022, 23:09
Hi, thank you for your question! Our IMPRESS: Clay Master would be the best mixture, as it is designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions. This mix also blends well with our Superstar: Back Lawn.

Would this seed mix blend with superstar back lawn?
Question by: Tor on 27 Apr 2022, 22:39
Hi, thank you for your question! Yes, you can blend two of our mixes together. You can check out our guide on our website! https://thegrasspeople.com/what-grass-seed-do-i-need/

If you are looking for a hard-wearing lawn, both of these mixtures, once established, create hard-wearing lawns. The IMPRESS mix is designed for clay soils, whilst the Superstar: Back lawn is a general all-rounder.

You could either sow the IMPRESS: Clay Master or sow a blended mix if this is your preference!

Hi

What is the sowing season for this seed please, or, what is the latest time to put this seed down?

Kindest Regards
Question by: Natasha Merrin on 26 Aug 2022, 09:50
Hi Natasha, thank you for your question. The grass sowing season is generally from March - September. You can confidently sow grass seed when temperatures are 8-10 degrees and above consistently for at least two weeks with no adverse weather conditions forecast. Always consult a two week forecast prior to sowing.

Hello i have an issue with my grass in the garden we have a clay base garden. In the summer it's like concrete and the winter it turns into a water feature. For most of the year its well shaded and to help things even more we have three dogs that enjoy running in the garden all year round. What would you recommend?

Thanks
Phil

Our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed would most likely be the best option for your soil as it is a specially blended grass seed mixture designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions

The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system which not only allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively but ensures a drought tolerant lawn, especially in soils that are prone to dryness. This mix is also quite durable so it should hold up ok against the dogs running around.

It does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix, but if your lawn really suffers from shade you may wish to blend it with one of our specialised shade mixtures.

By the sounds of it, you may need our Steadfast: Ultra Shade mix to blend with the clay mix if it is always in shade, as the Ultra shade mix is for areas that receive little to no light. Steadfast: Ultra Shade contains a super species called Poa Supina which is exceptionally shade tolerant.

We would advise that shade mixes are sown when the weather is warmer, late spring and summer. Due to the lack of sunlight they rely heavily on the warmer temperatures to assist germination.
