IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed - All Questions

sort-ascending
I'm removing 9ins of clay soil and replacing with quality too soil what is the best dead to use.
Question by: Sheona Ramsay -Edwards on 12 Apr 2021, 23:26
Hi Sheona

You have a few options, you could go with a mix for relatively normal soils, such as SUPERSTAR: Back Lawn. Whilst you are removing some of the clay soil, this will help elevate any issues associated with such soils, depending on the depth eventually over time the clay soil filters it way back in and you have the same issues. I would still recommend the IMPRESS: Clay Master for the area.

I have purchased the Impress clay soils grass seed. Which is the earliest month in the year I can start over seeding using this product ?

Thanks

Hi Neil

The grass sowing season is generally from March - September. You can confidently sow grass seed when temperatures are 8-10 degrees and above consistently for at least two weeks with no adverse weather conditions forecast. Always consult a two week forecast prior to sowing.

Hi, we have an area of heavy clay soil that we want to sow with grass seed. We will treat it as a meadow and will only cut it once a year (July/August). Will Clay Master be appropriate or can you suggest another mix? Thanks
Question by: Stuart on 20 May 2021, 08:21
Hi Stuart, Whilst we Impress will establish well in clay soils, it is a standard lawn ,mix so may not be ideal for an "natural" meadow look. We doe have verges & Embankments which may be a better option and is relatively low maintenance. Alternatively our Low Upkeep & Slow Growing Grass Seed is also an option, it is slower to establish and won't grow as tall as some of the other mixes.

Can I put grass seed down any time of the year or is the winter a bad time to start patching up my lawn?
Question by: rachel salisbury on 15 Oct 2021, 21:44
The success of sowing at this time of year really depends on where you are based, the north of the country tends to be much cooler than the south of the country.
Ideally temperatures for germination need to be 8-10 degrees Celsius, if you have these sort of temperatures consistently for 2 weeks then the seeds should germinate.
If you feel that the weather is not guaranteed or it is too cold in your part of the country then I would suggest that you delay sowing until Spring.

Hi, Can this grass seed withstand winter temperatures if sown Oct. / November; will it germinate below 8-10 degrees?

Hi, with all our seed we do not recommend sowing below these temperatures. Would this seed be best in my clay soil that is prone to slight temporary flood or damp soil?
Question by: Lewis Couse on 1 Nov 2021, 15:41
IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed for this area. It is a specially blended grass seed mixture designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions.

The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system which not only allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively but ensures a drought tolerant lawn, especially in soils that are prone to dryness in hot weather and then get quite boggy in wetter weather. The perennial ryegrass in this mix makes way for a fast-growing and hard-wearing lawn to thrive. It does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix, but if your lawn really suffers from shade you may wish to blend it with one of our specialised shade mixtures. However, if the flooding is extensive and happens regularly then any grass will struggle to survive. You may want to consider aerating the lawn regularly to help prevent the soil from getting too compacted.

Hi,

I spread IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed in late Sept after watering in and dissolving QUICK RELEASE: Pre - Seed Fertiliser. The grass has grown well but I've noticed a white whispy mould developing in numerous small areas across the new lawn, seven weeks since sowing the seeds (photos available). I have clay type soil. Are you able to advise whether this is something I should be concerned about please and, if so, what is the best remedy?

Thank you,
Tom

Hi Tom, thank you for getting in touch. If you would like to email any pictures you have of the garden and also tell us exactly how the area was prepared and the seeds were sown, that would be great? You can email this through to [email protected]

We have heavy clay soil (east Yorkshire). Last year we got a puppy, while we were waiting for him to be allowed to go for walks he had to use the garden, it was a particular wet few months during this time and we had to lay straw over the mud for him. this killed of the grass a bit, last year seem to be either really wet or really dry which didn't help in recovery of the lawn. now we have more mud than grass. please can you advise which seed would be best. we do not want a show lawn, just something that supports nature, and is hardwearing for the dog to play on, that suitable for clay soil. (not to much to ask for lol) we was wondering if clover mixes would be good? any help would be much appreciated

Just wondering, how does this grass fare against dog pee? We need to reseed our clayish soil but would like grass that isn’t going to go yellow and patchy or die when the dog pees on it. Thank you!
Question by: Siobhan on 27 Feb 2022, 09:10
Hi Siobhan, thanks for your question. Unfortunately there is no grass seed that is resistant to dog pee. It has a high level of nitrogen in it, which causes the grass to go yellow. We would recommend either trying to water over the patches after your dog pees, or trying to train them to do it away from your grass. The seed mix in our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn seed will leave you with a fast growing grass, which will help your lawn to come back after it has been affected by dog pee.

I have 3 areas of lawn. 2 heavy clay and one sandy 70/30. Will the clay seed still take well in the sandy soil too or will I need two types to cover the 3 areas?
Question by: Andrew on 6 Mar 2022, 20:54
Thanks for your enquiry. If they are separate parts of grass I would recommend going for two different seeds. If they are connected, you could blend the two mixes together to create one mixture?
