SUPERSTAR: Back Lawn - All Questions

sort-ascending
Hi, I bought a bag of this last year to overseed and still have lots left. Would it be ok to use again this year, the bags been sealed up in the garage.
Question by: Alan on 8 Apr 2022, 09:32
Hi, our grass seed is all fresh, so it will be good for about 12 months, likely 18 in reality but the less time that passes, the better! If your grass seed has been stored in a cool, dry place and away from pests, it should be fine.

My garden is a mess....I've turned the soil over and its still hard clay.
I need to sow some lawn seed as o can't afford turf, I bought some top soil as a friend suggested this to mix with the hard soil, then put some lawn seed for clay soil on it.
Does this work, as I don't want to spend money on something that won't work....my garden is 14sqm
Thanks

Hi, thanks for your question. I would recommend our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed for this area instead of our SUPERSTAR: Back Lawn. It is a specially blended grass seed mixture designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions.

The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system which not only allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively but ensures a drought tolerant lawn, especially in soils that are prone to dryness. The perennial ryegrass in this mix makes way for a fast-growing and hard-wearing lawn to thrive.

Hi,
After I’ve put my new seed in/on the soil, is it ok to use a fleece to cover the area to protect it from the birds eating the seed and falling leaves?
Question by: Russell Pickering on 4 Jun 2022, 13:46
Hi Russell, thank you for your question.

Yes, you could cover your newly seeded lawn with grass seed netting.

Good Morning, Is it ok to put a little top soil on top of the seeds when doing patch up bits?
Question by: Monika Nye on 27 Jul 2022, 11:03
Thanks for getting in touch!

Yes, it is! As long as it isn't too deep, it works great - around the size of a stack of 2-3 pound coins is the perfect depth!

What time of year is best for seeding a patchy lawn
Question by: Ian on 15 Aug 2022, 16:01
Hi Ian, thanks for your question. The grass sowing season is generally from March - September. You can confidently sow our fast-growing mixture SUPERSTAR: Back Lawn when temperatures are 8-10 degrees and above consistently for at least two weeks with no adverse weather conditions forecast. Always consult a two-week forecast before sowing.

Our back 10m x10m garden faces south but there are conifers along the southern border which block the sun until around April. After that more and more of the lawn gets full sun. In the peak of summer there's prob about 1m which gets dappled sun through the trees whilst the rest is fully exposed.

Which lawn seed would you recommend? Is steadfast shade tolerant of full sun? Is Superstar a nicer leg l lawn?
Question by: Rich on 21 Feb 2023, 14:06
Hi Rich, thank you for your questions.

Yes, STEADFAST: Shade is tolerant of full sun. SUPERSTAR: Back Lawn is a great mix if you want a thick, lush & hardwearing lawn. You could use a blend of the two mixes to ensure you have it all covered.

I have seeded lawn with your superstar mix. Great results was at cutting length within 18 days!! Happy. I have now cut 3 times at maximum setting on my mower cuts it to approx 60-65mm. When and how fast cam i start mowing lower to the recommended 20-40mm height? Thank you.
Question by: Jeff Morton on 29 May 2023, 20:27
Hi, great to hear the grass is growing well.
Normally once the lawn is fully established - usually around 6-8 weeks and after the initial first cut then you can start to mow a little shorter

Hello,

I had new lawn laid in May this year and it has established well however due to some recent building work some areas have become bare.

I am planning on putting your autumn and winter fertilizer down however wanted to give the lawn a seeding before. How long would I need to wait before I put the fertilizer down once seeded with Back lawn ?
Question by: HP on 3 Sept 2023, 07:54
Thank you for your question. You can apply the fertiliser either before or after sowing the new seeds. Or, if you would prefer to wait until the new areas are established, you can apply it around six weeks after sowing.

Will overseeding kill off/get rid of couch grass?
Question by: Paul Kerr on 9 Sept 2023, 11:21
Overseeding will certainly help reduce the amount of weeds you have, however couch grass can be tricky to clear and for best results, we do recommend removing it completely prior to sowing.
