I have a pretty compacted clay lawn and we're obviously just coming out of a wet and cold winter. Do I need to scarify the lawn before fertilising - or is that only before seeding?
Question by: Will on 28 Feb 2022, 12:06
Hi Will,
There's a few things you can do to ensure a successful overseeding, especially with clay soils. Our blog on this will help point you in the right direction; https://thegrasspeople.com/get-best-clay-soils/. Of course if you want to send any photos through or need further advice you can always email us at [email protected]

Hi my lawn is roughly 9mts x 9mts would a 20kg be big enough
Question by: David Wilkins on 29 Mar 2022, 08:31
Hi, I have used our Grass Seed Calculator, and for a lawn of this size, you would need approx. 5.67kg of fertiliser per each use.

Our fertiliser will keep for up to four years if stored in a cool, dry place!

I have some new seed to sew on fresh soil but only need less than 1kg of pre-seed. Could i use this as a pre-seed fertiliser and then through out the year as i wouldn't need a full bag of pre-seed or do i need pre-seed first and then this? Thank you
Question by: rosie china on 20 Apr 2022, 14:37
Hi, thank you for your question. It would be fine to use our Quick Release: Spring/Summer Fertiliser on your soil, which will help feed your soil!
Answer by: Helen McGale on 20 Apr 2022, 16:20
I over seeded my lawn last august and it was nice and green. Used the pre seed fertiliser and followed up with your simply seed.

However this spring it started to turn yellow in lots of patches. I applied some of the quick release pre seed and it turned nice, thick green lawn but couple months later gone back to the dry yellow straw like lawn in most places. Not sure if I need to scarify and oversees or apply another type of fertiliser?

I only used the pre seed fertiliser as I purchased couple bags from you previously and had some left over. Guessing I need some summer feed but not sure if it should be quick or slow release?

Hi, thank you for your question.

Yes, it would be fine to use up your QUICK RELEASE: Pre Seed fertiliser.

All of our QUICK RELEASE fertilisers provided 6 weeks of feed, whilst our SLOW RELEASE fertilisers provide 14-16 weeks of feed. Once the feed duration is up, you can feed your lawn again.

There are many reasons for yellow patches on your lawn, and it may be due to a lack of nitrogen, pet urine or common garden diseases. We have a blog post on our website which might be of interest to you: https://thegrasspeople.com/whats-going-lawn/

I have also included our step-by-step guide on how to overseed an existing lawn below:

● Remove any dead grass, weeds or moss by scarifying/raking the area
● Rake the area enough so that the soil is loose and not compact
● Sow the seed at our recommended rate of 35g per m2, by using a seed spreader or your hand
● Rake the seed in after sowing so that the seed is in amongst the soil
● Firm down by foot or by using a roller to improve seed-to-soil contact
● Water the just-sown seed well

Hi
I have just used the spring summer fertiliser on my new soil, how long until it dissolves? Then I can seed?
Question by: Alex Bungey on 30 Jul 2022, 05:26
Hi Alex, thanks for the question! Once applied, you should water your fertiliser until it fully dissolves and you can no longer see the granules. I would also recommend waiting for the fertiliser to run its 6-week course before seeding your lawn.

Hi,
Using quick release spring fertiliser , or slow release spring fertiliser ,
Do I need to keep my dogs off the treated area while granules have not dissolved ? Is it safe for them ? Or should they be totally excluded of the area ?
Question by: Monique on 2 Apr 2023, 12:38
Hi, Thank you for your question. Once you apply our fertiliser, you should keep your pets away from the area and water the granules until they fully dissolve. When the granules have disappeared into the soil, your pets can return to playing on your lawn!

Question by: Bob on 7 Jun 2023, 12:44
Thank you for your question.

The length of time can depend on a number of factors - how often or how long it is watered/weather etc but generally speaking it can take few days of watering until all the granules are dissolved. To help speed it up, we suggest applying the fertiliser when rain is forecast.

Question by: Shelley on 7 Aug 2023, 09:29
Thank you for your question.

This is a granular fertiliser and will need some watering until fully dissolved. We recommend keeping any pets of the lawn until the granules have dissolved but once they are dissolved it is safe to let them back out.
