FAMILY: Kids and Pets Grass Seed - All Questions

sort-ascending
Dear Sir/Madam,
I seeded my new lawn 19 days ago and parts of it look really great. the grass is green and quite tall. I seeded it with Family kids and pets, and also with steadfast shade. My concern is that the grass is very patchy. It seems that most of the "lawn" has shoots growing but they are spread out alot so it looks patchy. Will this fill out over the next few weeks or do I need to throw some more seed down? It seems difficult to throw more seed down as I cannot mix it in with the soil as there is grass growing there already. Any and all advice is very much appreciated. I have a picture but see no way to add it.
Thanks, and all the very best,
Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for the question. What is likely happening is that the Ryegrass in the Family Kids & Pets mix is starting to appear while the Fescues in the Steadfast Shade mix are still taking longer to germinate. This will be down to Fescues liking to grow at warmer temperatures than the Ryegrass! I'd hold off on sowing any more seed and wait a couple of weeks for the Fescues to catch up, and then you should have a lovely full looking lawn. Also, feel free to send any pictures of your lawn to [email protected] if you'd like us to have a look.
Have a lovely weekend :)

If I’m laying as a re seed and it’s hard to disturb the soil can I mix with some top soil to spread it with? Thanks

Hi, thank you for your enquiry.

For best results, when sowing the seed, we would recommend that the existing soil is loose. Adding some water before doing any digging raking will make it easier to work with.

Hi, Is this seed good for overseeding on a patchy garden that has clay soil? I am looking for a seed that is fast growing and hard wearing.

Thank you

Thank you for your questions. The most suitable mix for clay soils is our our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed. It is a specially blended grass seed mixture designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions.

The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system which not only allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively but ensures a drought tolerant lawn, especially in soils that are prone to dryness during warmer weather but are slow to drain during wetter weather. The perennial ryegrass in this mix makes way for a fast-growing and hard-wearing lawn to thrive.
