FAMILY: Kids and Pets Grass Seed - All Questions

Can I sow now.
Question by: Arthur Mcardle on 12 Feb 2022, 10:02
Hi, thanks for the question. We would recommend waiting until March when temperatures are warmer. The grass sowing season is generally from March - September. You can confidently sow grass seed when temperatures are 8-10 degrees and above consistently for at least two weeks with no adverse weather conditions forecast. Always consult a two week forecast prior to sowing.

How well does this keep with dog urine? We are suffering from burn from our dog peeing on the grass.
Question by: Dale on 28 Feb 2022, 18:04
Thanks for your question. Our FAMILY: Kids and Pets. It produces a hardwearing, lush and versatile lawn. Whilst it's not pee resistant is one of our most hardwearing mixes. Dog urine will affect all grass types, but there are a few things you can do to help it, we have a blog post on our website which might be of interest to you. Just search How to repair dog urine patches on our website, and it will take you directly to our article.

Can this be used now or is it better to wait until later in spring? We live in Yorkshire and it is still dropping cold on a night.
Thanks
Question by: Charlotte Hallas on 18 Mar 2022, 13:48
Hi, thanks for your question. I would suggest holding off until the temperatures at night are warmer and around 8 to 10 degrees. To help you decide when to sow, you may like to consult a two-week forecast before sowing grass seed.

Hi I’ve got clay soil and 1 dog, would this hard wearing grass be ok or would I have to use your clay seed mixture?
Question by: Adam thomas on 18 May 2022, 19:25
Hi Adam,

Thank you for your question!

We recommend our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed for your clay soils. IMPRESS is a specially blended grass seed mixture designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions.

The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system that allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively and ensures a drought-tolerant lawn, especially in soils prone to dryness. The perennial ryegrass in this mix makes way for a fast-growing and hard-wearing lawn to thrive.

Some of our customers who have dogs and clay soils have informed us they use this mix as it creates a hard-wearing lawn.

Will it be ok to use kids and pets grass seed after scarification and puttin you pre seed fertiliser down TIA
Question by: Tony on 29 May 2022, 13:37
Hi Tony, thanks for your question!

We would recommend applying our QUICK RELEASE: Pre-Seed prior to seeding, after you have mowed and scarified your lawn.

After applying it, you should leave it for a few days to allow the product to treat your lawn, and make sure that the granules are well watered and fully dissolved before sowing any grass seed!

Hi We have 2 dogs and although they don't usually wee on the garden we are hoping to find a seed that is resistant to patches caused by dog wee. Would this be a good option? Thanks
Question by: Laura on 2 Sept 2022, 12:34
Hi, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, no grass seed is resistant to the effects of dog "wee". However, this particular mix is extremely hard-wearing and can tolerate wear and tear. If they do urinate on the grass then try to water the area, as this dilutes it and will help minimise damage.

When is best to patch a lawn
Question by: Dawn on 5 Mar 2023, 15:39
Hi Dawn,

To get the best results from overseeding a patchy lawn, you will want mild temperatures (around 8-10°C) mixed with plenty of rainy days, such as during months of spring or autumn.

We have a guide on this topic if you would like some further reading, which includes information on the perfect overseeding process:

Hi, I've just bought the Family: Kids and Pets Grass Seed for overseeding as we have lots of mud patches following a wet winter with our new puppy. Can I rake the soil and sow the seed whilst the ground is still wet or does it need to be completely dried out? As it's rained a lot recently and there are only sporadic dry days forecast over the next couple of weeks I'm concerned the ground isn't going to fully dry out for quite a while and I don't want to miss the chance to sow this so the lawn if fixed for the the summer. Thanks.
Question by: Matt on 27 Mar 2023, 10:01
Hi, thank you for your question.

You do not have to wait until it is completely dried out but just make sure that it is not too muddy and difficult to work with.

Hi, my lawn has sadly been hit with leatherjackets. I have brought treatment to treat them with. How long after treating the garden with the leatherjacket treatment should I wait before applying new grass seed to the lawn? Thanks.
Question by: Robin Fisher on 21 Apr 2023, 16:53
Hi, thanks for the question! You should only sow your seeds after the leatherjackets are fully gone to avoid undoing all your hard work. Continue to water your lawn daily, and the leatherjackets should be gone within 2-4 weeks!
