STEADFAST: Ultra Shade - All Questions

sort-ascending
Hi, You answered my last question on use of this mix on heavy clay soil. My question is what should be the ratio to mix this STEADFAST: Ultra Shade with claymaster on total 50 m2 lawn area?
Question by: K S on 13 Jul 2021, 15:06
Hi, there is no exact ratio as every lawn is different and it really depends on the extent of the shade. If there is a lot of heavy shade then you could try 60:40 Ultra Shade/Impress or if it isn't too bad then 60:40 Impress/Ultra Shade. These are just example ratios and we tend to leave it up to the customer to make the judgement call.

I have clay soil and a shaded area under a tree. I also have a puppy and children. The most important issue is whether the grass seed is poisonous to dogs or children if accidentally ingested. Then which would be most suitable for shade and clay? Should I order a mix?
Question by: Lucy on 21 Jul 2021, 14:04
Our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed is a great option for clay soils and it does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix, but if your lawn really suffers from shade you may wish to blend it with one of our specialised shade mixtures. You can blend any of our mixes. If their is areas that suffer from a full shade then the Ultra Shade would be the best option.

Whilst our seeds are not dangerous to animals or children we do recommend that you keep them of the lawn until the lawn establishes.

What is ideal cutting length for this mixture? Will it sustain close mowing?
Question by: KS on 22 Sept 2021, 14:06
Full details can be found on the product page, however the recommended mowing height for this product is 20 - 40mm

Will this work on very sandy soil?
Question by: Charlie White on 25 Jan 2022, 14:27
Hi Charlie, Ideally for sandy soils you would better with our Thrive: Sandy Soils. It is the perfect blend of seed for lawns which suffer from low nutrient, sandy soils. This drought resistant mix is made up of fescues which are drought resistant and can deal with minimal nutrients. If your lawn does suffer from shade then you could blend some STEADFAST: Ultra Shade.

Hi,
This might seem a daft question but I'm going to ask it anyway....!

I have a west facing garden, and so have one side which faces North and so a strip of a metre or so which never gets any sun due to the fence. I also have clay soil, but the remainder is in sun for most of the time.

My question is can I sow one of your shade tolerant seeds to the part in shade and the clay lawn seed to the rest? Or will I end up with a stripe from the two different seed mixes?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi, thank you for your question. IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix, but if your lawn really suffers from the shade, you may wish to blend it with one of our specialised shade mixtures. We suggest blending the grass seeds mixtures before applying them to your lawn.

Hi does this product work well if I pre germinate it before sowing.
Question by: Jamie on 15 Mar 2022, 12:25
Hi, thank you for your question. Normally we would not advise pre germination or priming the seed to the average customer. However, we would suggest that anyone who has the experience, skills set and knows what they are doing can decide for themselves. Any grass seed, including this one, can be pre-germinated and please bear in mind the ground temperature needs to be high enough for the grass to grow.

Hello

I have previously laid turf which turned to mud in the Winter. Every year since I seed using Miracle Grow Super Seed. It grows very well and lasts the summer then turns to mud again in the winter with a lot of visible worm casts on the surface.
The lawn is shady but receives a small patch of direct sunlights as it moves around the garden during the day. There are also a lot of well established trees in the area. Soil measures Neutral - slightly Alkaline and there is clay beneath at a depth of approx 30 cm +.
I was intending on trying some of your Steadfast Ultrashade. Do you think this is the most suitable seed based upon the information above?

Many thanks

Tom
Question by: Tom on 6 Apr 2022, 14:09
HI Tom, thanks for your message. Yes, i would 100% recommend our STEADFAST: Ultra Shade mix, it will grow well in areas of little to no sunlight. But you should wait until the weather warms up a bit more before sowing this!

I have an area of lawn that is constantly in the shade and damp (after rain it’s quite soft and soggy) I have re turfed it but it just goes very thin and sparse. Could you please recommend which grass seed would work.
Kind regards
Peter
Question by: Peter Mackay on 6 Apr 2022, 17:14
HI Peter, thanks for your message. It sounds like you will need one of our shade mixes. Either STEADFAST: Shade for areas of dappled shade, or STEADFAST: Ultra Shade for areas that get little sunlight. These should be sown in warmer temperatures as they rely heavily on heat to germinate.

Hi, Which grass seed is best for mostly shaded areas with clay soil that floods with heavy rain?
Question by: Richard Giles on 15 May 2022, 12:58
Hi, thank you for your question!

I would recommend our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed for this area. It is a specially blended grass seed mixture designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions. The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system which not only allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively but ensures a drought-tolerant lawn, especially in soils that are prone to dryness. The perennial ryegrass in this mix makes way for a fast-growing and hard-wearing lawn to thrive.

It does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix, but if your lawn really suffers from the shade, you may wish to blend it with one of our specialised shade mixtures.

If you are consistently experiencing pools of water on your lawn, you may wish to look into this with a professional.

Hi,
We're looking to seed our lawn which is a mixture or shade and mostly sun, so was looking at your shade ultra and the family lawn for the hard wearing properties. But are the grass types the same, as in I don't really want a mix of grass blade thicknesses, so are they the same thickness or is one grass thin blades and on type thicker blades?
Many thanks
Question by: Ed Greig on 12 Mar 2023, 08:39
Thank you for your question.

Both of these mixes will blend nicely together. Whilst the FAMILY: Kids and Pets is made up of mostly perennial ryegrass, the remaining 20% is fescue, which will blend with the fescues in the STEADFAST: Ultra Shade.
