Product Description
STEADFAST: Shade is for dappled non-permanent shade that moves across the lawn during the day. This type of shade usually causes patchiness, and if it receives any wear and tear it can make it difficult for grass to grow back. This mix contains 20% perennial ryegrass to make your lawn hardwearing, whilst a blend of 70% fescues (Strong Creeping Red Fescue, Chewings Fescue, Hard Fescue) provides lushness. Smooth Stalked Meadow Grass makes up 10% of the mix, providing the shade tolerance your lawn needs.
This mixture is best sown from May to end of summer as this mix contains fescues which require temperatures of around 15 degrees and above to germinate, so check with your weather app before sowing.
This shade-tolerant grass seed also mixes well with our SUPERSTAR: Back Lawn grass seed mix.
We are so confident of the quality of our grass seed that all our seeds are covered by our Grass Seed Growth Guarantee.

Usage Guide
Sowing a new lawn with STEADFAST: Shade
● Dig the soil over to a depth of 20-25cm
● Remove weeds by hand or use a weed killer
● Add top soil if you believe the soil to be poor quality or unlevel
● Rake the area to get a level seedbed
● Allow the seedbed to cultivate for 10-14 days to encourage any weeds to come to the surface, then remove any weeds that appear by hand
● Sow the seed at our recommended rate of 50g per m2, by using a seed spreader or your hand
● Rake the seed in after sowing so that the seed is in amongst the soil
● Firm down by foot or by using a roller to improve seed to soil contact
● Water the just-sown seed well

Product Questions
Product Questions
The established grass from overseeding last year is growing long. I'm assuming I can't cut whilst the new seeds establish?
Unfortunately there is not much else we can do but wait until the temperatures start to increase and it starts to feel like Spring. Continue to water in the absence of rain and I would hold off on mowing until the new sward is established.
The best time for any of our seed to be sown is in spring. The shade mixes take a little longer to establish as they require warmer temperatures to germinate. If sown in spring, you should expect to see a healthy sward in early summer.
We would advise that these mixes are sown when the weather is warmer, late spring and summer. Due to the lack of sunlight they rely heavily on the warmer temperatures to assist germination. These will be slower to establish than some of our other mixes but once grown you won't have to worry about those dark spots anymore.
Thank you for your enquiry, whilst this mix is designed to establish in shaded areas it will not have any issues with establishment in full sun.
It does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix, but if your lawn really suffers from shade you may wish to blend it with one of our specialised shade mixtures.
Also are the grass blades much coarser, I have put the superstart back lawn on the rest of the garden, so I want to understand the visual difference
thank you
If the garden suffers from a partial, dappled shade then the STEADFAST: Shade will work well. The Ultra Shade this only for full permanent shade.
This mix also contains perennial ryegrass which can be found in the SUPERSTAR mix so they will blend nicely.
