Can a sow this on top of an existing lawn?
If not, how do you recommend I prepare the ground? I have seen a sit suggest scalping the existing lawn.
Can a lawn weedkiller be used to remove weeds without killing the fescue?

Hi David,

You can apply a weedkiller prior to overseeding an existing lawn. I would recommend our Feed, Weed and Moss Killer product. It works over the course of two weeks to eradicate weeds and moss - where it is particularly prevalent patches will appear and these will need seeded. It will also feed your lawn and make any existing grass very green and lush. It is a granular fertiliser and needs to be watered in after application.

After the 2 weeks you can then sow the seeds. below is our step by step guide to overseeding.
● Remove any dead grass, weeds or moss by scarifying / raking the area
● Rake the area enough so that the soil is loose and not compact
● Sow the seed at our recommended rate of 35g per m2, by using a seed spreader or your hand
● Rake the seed in after sowing so that the seed is in amongst the soil
● Firm down by foot or by using a roller to improve seed to soil contact
● Water the just-sown seed well

Hi, you mention only a limited amount of mows needed each year. How often would it need mowed approximately and what species are in it? Thanks

Hi, thanks for your question!

Once the lawn is established, it would need to be mowed a few times a year, and this can also be based on one's personal preference.

The Low Upkeep & Slow Grow Grass mix contains strong creeping red fescue, chewings fescue and hard fescue/sheeps fescue.

Hi we have sown the seed on fresh new soil that was delivered. It is covered equally in grass and weed.
We haven't given it its first mow yet. What is the best thing to do to eliminate weeds please.
We have the slow grow seed.
Kind Regards

Hi Ginny, thank you for your question.

It can be pretty alarming when weeds start to grow along with your new grass.

Even with the most thorough preparation, weeds can lay dormant in the soil and in good conditions, weeds can come through with the new grass.

We have a blog post with some tips on dealing with weeds in a newly seeded lawn, you can check out it here: https://thegrasspeople.com/control-weeds-newly-seeded-lawn/
