Product Questions

Hi there
I have just stumbled on this product and cannot wait to use it. I have just bought a cottage in Midhurst West Sussex and I have never ever had a garden like it. It is saturated sodden in the winter and like concrete in the summer. I have left a beautiful well stocked garden and landed with a garden with not a plant in site....and boggy grassy patchy lawn to boot.
I have only ever had a sandy garden before having always lived near a beach.
I have aerated the grass to an inch of it's life and can't wait to get going.
My question is, it is now coming into February. When is the absolute earliest I can start to re seed the baldy patches.
Thanks so much
Sue
Question by: Sue on 31 Jan 2021, 16:22
Hi Sue

Thank you for your enquiry. The grass sowing season is generally from March - September. You can confidently sow grass seed when temperatures are 8-10 degrees and above consistently for at least two weeks with no adverse weather conditions forecast. Always consult a two week forecast prior to sowing.

You may also want to consider our QUICK RELEASE: Pre-Seed fertiliser. It provides the soil and seed with all the nutrients they need. It helps to create a great foundation for sowing new seed whilst strengthening existing grass. It will also help increase germination and establishing a strong root system.

Congrats on the new house and we would love to see some before and after pictures of the garden.

Hi
I’m looking to over-seed a mixed/clay soil with few areas that are prone to moss and want grass that has fine grass blades - is this the right product?
Question by: LeNic on 23 Sept 2020, 09:37
Hi Nicolas

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed is a mix of fine fescue and perennial ryegrass along with a small amount of stalked meadow grass. Whilst it does consist of fescues which is a finer grass variety the ryegrass is slightly thicker, which is known for its durability and hardwearing properties. There are finer mixes available but this does grow extremely well in clay based soils. The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system which not only allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively but ensures a drought tolerant lawn, especially in clay soils that are prone to dryness. It does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix. https://thegrasspeople.com/impress-clay-master-lawn-seed

If you have any other questions I would be happy to help

Many Thanks

Hi, I have a small lawn (c. 40m2) clay soil, already has worn grass I want to improve, c. 25% shade in summer, more in winter. Has been holding water, I have airated with pitchfork and now want to sow grass. I also have children. Which seed do you recommend? Thank you.

Hi, we have an area of heavy clay soil that we want to sow with grass seed. We will treat it as a meadow and will only cut it once a year (July/August). Will Clay Master be appropriate or can you suggest another mix? Thanks
Question by: Stuart on 20 May 2021, 07:21
Hi Stuart, Whilst we Impress will establish well in clay soils, it is a standard lawn ,mix so may not be ideal for an "natural" meadow look. We doe have verges & Embankments which may be a better option and is relatively low maintenance. Alternatively our Low Upkeep & Slow Growing Grass Seed is also an option, it is slower to establish and won't grow as tall as some of the other mixes.

How to judge the watering is enough for the new lawn? Could you show me some picture example?

Has the grass seed been treated so birds won't eat it!
Question by: Steve Cole on 28 Sept 2020, 08:57
Hi Steve

The seeds are completely natural and not coated with anything – so aren’t bird repellent. We have a few recommendations on our blog on this but in short:

1. Use visual deterrents such as reflective objects
2. Use noise deterrents such as windchimes
3. Place netting over the area
4. Provide alternative food source such as bird food

Many Thanks

Hello i have an issue with my grass in the garden we have a clay base garden. In the summer it's like concrete and the winter it turns into a water feature. For most of the year its well shaded and to help things even more we have three dogs that enjoy running in the garden all year round. What would you recommend?

Thanks
Phil

Our IMPRESS: Clay Master Lawn Seed would most likely be the best option for your soil as it is a specially blended grass seed mixture designed for clay and heavy clay soil conditions

The tall fescue component has a strong deep rooting system which not only allows it to penetrate your clay soils effectively but ensures a drought tolerant lawn, especially in soils that are prone to dryness. This mix is also quite durable so it should hold up ok against the dogs running around.

It does have some shade tolerance due to the meadow grass in the mix, but if your lawn really suffers from shade you may wish to blend it with one of our specialised shade mixtures.

By the sounds of it, you may need our Steadfast: Ultra Shade mix to blend with the clay mix if it is always in shade, as the Ultra shade mix is for areas that receive little to no light. Steadfast: Ultra Shade contains a super species called Poa Supina which is exceptionally shade tolerant.

We would advise that shade mixes are sown when the weather is warmer, late spring and summer. Due to the lack of sunlight they rely heavily on the warmer temperatures to assist germination.
